E28 535 M30 Turbo

This is the Build log of our BMW E28 project. the car started out as an Euro M535i with m30 3.4 and a dog-leg 5 speed. First upgrade to turbo included an E23 745i turbo conversion, with tubular exhaust manifold, original K27 turbo, non intercooled M30b34 kat engine. running 0,6 bar boost. Next step up:

ARP head and main studs

e34 Alpina B10 head with full hemispherical combustion chamber, 39mm exhaust valves, 47 mm intake valves

308 degrees dbilas cam, with heavy duty Ireland engineering rockers

S38b36 intake, with custom adapter to include additional 6 injectors (12 total)

48mm equal length ANSI 321 stainless steel exhaust header

67mm holset hx50 turbo upgraded to 71mm holset HX55 turbo


Acceleration test

hand crafted equal length exhaust manifold made from AISI 321 stainless steel

M30 turbo engine moved from the e28 into the e24 due to its larger wheel arches in order to fit wider tires. The m535i with M30 turbo got dyno'd at 770hp and 1060Nm, resulting in wheel spin in first 4 gears with 255-35-18 semi slicks.

The m535i has been equipped with a M50 2.8 turbo engine, which both from power and weight perspective fits the e28 much better.

mods include:

ARP head studs and main studs

MLS head-gasket resulting in 9:1 compression

M52 2.8 crankshaft and pistons

M52 2.8 vanos head

M50 2.5 intake

K29 turbo running 1.4 bar boost

600x300 FMIC,

MS3 +MS3X ECU, 870cc siemens deka injectors.

S5D-320Z M3/328i e36 gearbox, 2,93 210 LS rear diff.


From a supspension and breaking perspective the m535i was already equiped with:

BC-racing coilover set

rear trailing arm camber adjustment

ireland engineering 25/19mm swaybar kit

324x30 E31 single caliper front brakes

300x20 E34 rear breaks

EBC yellow stuff brake pads

ABS delete, brake bias valve from tilton

18" BBS RC 0061/0062 8+9J style 5




The M535i got a respray from achat green to royal blue metallic.
